Introduction

A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack occurs when multiple computers or devices—typically controlled by a single person or group—attempt to access a website or online service all at once. This generates a massive amount of traffic that overloads the site, causing it to slow down or crash entirely. To make it clearer, imagine a candy shop where usually only a few customers enter, and the staff serves everyone without issue. But if, suddenly, a huge crowd of children rushes in to buy candy, it creates chaos. The sellers cannot keep up with the demand, and the shop becomes overwhelmed. In the same way, website servers are built to handle a certain amount of traffic at any given time, but a DDoS attack brings an abnormal volume of traffic that overloads them instantly. This causes the site to become unresponsive, leaving regular users unable to use it. DDoS attacks can be very damaging to businesses and organizations that rely on their websites or online services. They can lead to lost revenue, reputational damage, and potential security risks, especially if they are used as a distraction for other malicious activities.
